Hi everyone!!!
I'm 13 days post op and I've been experiencing a weird taste every morning just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing and can give me some insight on what it can be. Thanks

Is it sort of metallic? If so, you're likely in ketosis.

Yes it is very unpleasant taste. The weird thing is that it's only in the morning. If that's the case what does that mean?

It means that your body is burning fat instead of glucose from carbs that you eat. A lot of people here strive to stay in ketosis for optimum weight loss. My surgeon actually advised me to avoid it because of my pre-diabetic status (diabetics are liable to enter dangerous levels of ketosis that can cause a person to enter a coma). You'll probably get a LOT of responses here about this post and the benefits of being in ketosis, but this is one that I'd talk to my surgeon about if I were you. It can be beneficial for some, but dangerous for others. It just depends on your own personal health history, which only YOU and your surgeon know.

Hope I didn't scare you. It can be dangerous after LONG periods of time for diabetics. Just entering that state for a couple of days isn't anything to freak out about :)

I didn't mean to scare you!! Sorry about that. Give your surgeon's office a shout tomorrow and let them know. My surgeon wanted to know when things like that came up. If they prefer that you NOT be in ketosis, they'll likely just tell you to up your carbs a bit. If they're cool with it, then you'll just have to deal with the taste ;)

I found that drinking something with flavor distracted me from the taste. I swear by water flavorings like Mio :)

You will get used to it. Grab some sugar free mints in the interim.
