When did you take the Alteration/Donation Leap of Faith??
I started donating things when I was down two sizes, but I still kept a lot of my favorite clothes. I am now 9 months from starting the process, (5 months post surgery) and I tried on my coat from last year, and I could wrap it around me twice. There is no way I could wear it. lol. So it was rather silly of me to keep so much stuff.
But I'd say, do what is comfortable. Any erring on the side of caution will be easily remedied later!
Congratulations on fitting into smaller clothing. I think its the best NSV. It makes the weight loss seem real.

I altered nothing. When I spoke to an alterations person, she told me that there was a point beyond which something could be altered and still look right. As many sizes as I would need something reduced it would look bad in the end.
As for donations, I started donating just as soon as I shrunk out of something.
Good Luck!

Initially I donated my old size as I fit comfortably into the next size down. Right now, I hold onto one size up until I can squeeze into (but not necessarily wear) the next size down.
I've don't have any plans to alter anything except my suits. I'm hopeful my tailor will be able to save me a bunch by altering my old suits (which don't fit me now) versus having to buy a bunch of new ones.
In the end, except for whatever happens to the suits, everything I had in the closet will be replaced. The old stuff will pretty much go to Goodwill.

In my case I had clothes 2-3 sizes smaller which I had never worn, purchased purely on hope. I got to wear some of them as the weight dropped off, but some I just zoomed right past and never got to wear. Goodwill got some cute stuff from me, some still with tags.
I have one top which I LOVE but which I will never be able to wear again because it is just.too.damn.big.. As Rob mentioned, I think it's past the point of being salvaged by alteration. I'm going to cut it up and make a small decorative pillow out of part of it and smile every time I see it. :)
