So...am on day 4 of liquid pre op diet. I "think" that I read somewhere that prior to surgery, the doctors really need you to have had a bowel movement. I am usually so regular but NOTHING now for 4 days. Should I be taking something like Miralax starting now since bottle says it can take up to 3 days for it to work and my surgery is this coming Tuesday, 11~12~13.

You're probably lgss regular because of your diet at the moment so don't worry about that.

At your pre-surg appointment with the hospital they should have given you instructions. Mine didn't specify any pthng special but other surgeries might have you do something special. Those instructions should guide you. If they say nothing don't worry about it.

Not sure about the mirialax usage before surgery. I think you could safely use it but I wouldn't bother. I did nothing special going into the surgery other that stop eating and drinking at midnight the night before.

My doctor told me I didn't have a BM for 4 days I should take Miralax, BUT I was on a pureed diet from day one. I imagine this is different from a liquid diet. If I were you I'd call your doctors office and ask before you take anything.

I was told over the phone to get a laxative ro use 3 days before surgery.  It got things running smoothly.

I'd call and ask on this one. My surgeon didn't require a pre op diet, but I did have to do a "bowel cleanse" (serious laxative) the day before surgery. Every doctor is different.

I was told by my pre-op nurse to buy two bottles of magnesium citrate (they cost a dollar a bottle). Drink the first bottle at around noon the day before surgery and if no BM occurs by 5:00pm, drink the second bottle.
