Lifting restrictions
I'm hoping to have surgery mid-January, and am wondering what your dr's said about how much you could lift post surgery and for how long? I'm a sahm, and our youngest (21 months) has Down syndrome. He can sit unassisted but has very low muscle tone so he doesn't support a lot of his own weight when being lifted. He's 19lbs now and my dr said 19 is the cut off for 4 weeks, but then he said you 'd probably be fine to lift him. I'm scared to cause a leak or to get a hernia. I can't afford a lot of downtime due to his therapies and appointments.

My post op instructions were explained to me in lbs as well as these fairly simple examples. Do not lift anything heavier than a phone book, do not vacuum, or push/pull anything that has some weight to it. I was cleared to lift heavier items after 4 weeks as well. For sure you don't want to risk anything in the first 4 weeks of healing.
I can empathize how difficult this may be.
Good luck !
