Ladies: Will they still do your surgery if...

...it turns out being 'TOM' (and most likely one of your heaviest days) the day of your surgery???

Yeah. GREEEAAT. My cycles are a little bit irregular and unpredictable but I think I'm going to get one in 1-2 days, my body is showing the signs (my face broke out last night apparently). WHY COULDN'T THEY HAVE JUST TOOK MY UTERUS OUT WHEN THEY TOOK THE OTHER STUFF OUT. ARGH.

I have taken the time off work, I jumped through ALL the hoops (blood tests, urine, EKG, cardio stress, EGD, you name it they poked it) I really CAN NOT AFFORD to put this surgery date off.

The only good thing coming out of this is that my little weight-loss stall will be gone in a week regardless and I should have a good shot at WL again for the next 2-3 weeks before the next stall hits.

I can tell you from direct experience - yes.  They'll probably give you special panties to wear for the surgery - not attractive, but oh well!

Hahaha. Awesome. I'm ok with a pair of granny panties. I'll just be EXTRA frumpy in recovery, I suppose!

They've just been so darn touchy about everything else pre-op with me and making sure I'm PERFECT, I didn't know if this would throw my date off. I'll notify the nurse when I get in to registration, as I can't wear tampons and they probably wouldn't want me to anyway. Oh, goobers - I am out of pads here at home, too. Will have to hit the drugstore one last time (thought I was done, apparently not!)

But yeah, figured something was up - I woke up with intense weird hunger/cravings and zits so I thought "Oh, crapcakes."

Perhaps! Although I still blame the terrible, terrible fast for that one, mostly!

I'm still tempted to Viking it up, complete with bawdy songs and a turkey leg, but I'm being good again.  :)

Turkey legs are VSG friendly! And I can't see where a bawdy song could NOT help!

I think they'll still do it. About 10 years ago I had my gall bladder out and I was on my period. They just shoved a pad between my legs and lasered away. I wouldn't be worried about it, especially because its a relatively quick surgery.

Congratulations and good luck!!

More than likely, it'll be fine. Remember that menstrual "blood" isn't really "blood," so that shouldn't be a factor... In reality, with a laparoscopic procedure, you should only lost about 3 ml of blood anyway. Ask your surgeon, of course, but you really should be fine. I have had surgery during TOM (not VSG, but my ACL repair) and no one batted an eyelash. They just gave me some HORRIBLE mesh "underwear" (really, they barely qualified) and a MONSTROUS pad to wear.

I'm perimenopausal with a history of all sorts of pelvic issues, so TOM gets interesting for me. I'd much rather ruin their icky mesh not-panties than my own clothes, and their sheets rather than mine, so as long as they will still do my surgery, bring it on! I'll just ask for some panties, a pad, and one of those little paper deals to sit on.

I thought I was in FULL menopause, so that last period caught me by surprise, let me tell you!  I think the stress of the surgery brought on one last lovely experience for me to remember.
