My recomendation going forward is unsweetened almond milk by Silk and I prefer the vanilla to the regular. Also early out I liked the Premier Protein RTDs from Costco, they are not very thick and go down nicely.

Also protein powder mixed with water is better than milk. My favorites for Chocolate are Dymatize ISO100 Gourmet Chocolate and AST VP2 Chocolate. Both mix well and are very tasty.

I started drinking the unsweetened vanilla almond milk a few weeks before surgery. I decided to try it on a whim. Now I absolutely love it. I love milk and dairy products, but the calories and carbs add up quickly. It was perfect in my coffee,  and now I use it with protein powder if I want something creamy.

I just now had 2 oz. of unsweetened almond milk by Trader Joe's with a little About Time protein powder (less sugar than Unjury and also less smell) as a snack. It went down so easy and soothed my grouchy li'l tummy. I'll do that again soon!

My new tummy apparently HATES HATES HATES cow milk just as much as I do. I had terrible gas, rumblies, sharp pains and diarrhea when I was drinking it in hospital. I would drink a sip and get a grumble. I was lactose intolerant before, I am even more so now I think. Almond milk is going down easy. My tummy doesn't grumble when I sip it.

This is one of the fears I have.  The flavored unjury powders have fructose in them which makes me super sick - will I have any control over what I'm given in the hospital? :/

GwenMo, since you and I have the same surgeon, I can tell you that they don't give you any protein shakes in the hospital. All you get is broth, jello, tea, and water. Personally, I *love* the chocolate Unjury, but I have a huge sweet tooth. I think it tastes just like chocolate milk. Yum!

You ROCK.  Thank you so much for this info!  You have eased the only concern I have about surgery, seriously.  I've been pretty worried about the in-hospital foods.

I got a sampler pack of the Unjury, not bothering to check the ingredients first, only to learn I can only use the unflavored and the chicken soup flavors!  My dad needs extra protein right now due to chemo, though, so I passed on the chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry to him :D
