2 weeks out and NOT LOSING!

So, 2 weeks ago I was sleeved and I am VERY discouraged that I'm not losing. I usually lose weight super fast, and was actually able to lose 30 in the 4 weeks of preop liquids. I went into surgery weighing 276, and weighed myself again when I came home and I was 265. So, clearly that 11lbs was not a loss of overall weight, but merely what they cut out of me. Now, 2 weeks out, I am still hovering around the 260's.  5lbs in 14 days, REALLY!?

I was certain I would be one of those fast losers, since weight always falls right off me when I'm dieting, and I have been following the program. (Usually able to get around 60g protein, 64oz water, under 20-30 carbs). I'm supposed to start pureed food today, but I feel so discouraged, I almost want to go back to only shakes, just so that I can get some weight loss going. This is supposed to be my honeymoon period and I feel like I'm already failing. I understand about stalls throughout, but how is it possible to stall RIGHT OUT of the gate?

Give it some time!  It will happen.  Your body is going through changes and it will catch up.  Just keep doing what your doing.

"how is it possible to stall RIGHT OUT of the gate?"

Probably because your body is healing.  Be patient :)

Thanks for the reminders to be patient. I know I'm being silly to want more so soon, but it's hard to compare to others who lose quickly at the beginning and me being so sure before,  that I was going to be one of them!

It's also hard to wrap my brain around how I could have this much weight to lose, and be eating so little (max 500 calories a day AND I nurse my 6 month old), and still not have pounds dropping off me. Isn't it IMPOSSIBLE to not lose eventually! I will just stick with it and hope to see the numbers soon.

You are not alone! I'm 2 months post op and have lost 23 pounds. I lost 17 the 2 weeks pre-op (on the liquid diet). I know exactly how you feel. I'm hoping that what everyone says (Stick with it, your body will catch up) is true! I keep waiting!!!!!

there's no way your stomach weighed 11lbs!  some of that weight loss was actual loss.

i'm 3 months out today.  i've been plagued by stalling for what feels like weeks then losing 4 lbs overnight.  it's been incredibly frustrating and discouraging.  however, everyone at the mass general weight center has told me that everyone, especially those sleeved, lose weight at different rates.  in the short term, it's difficult to compare weight losses.  however, 12 to 18 months out, folks seem to even out in terms of loss.  my weight loss has looked like a staircase.  i just have to accept that's what it's going to be for now and not fret.  early on, i also had water weight problems, losing and gaining the same 14lbs three times!  i'm so thrilled to be over that hump!

it's not easy to focus on the big picture and not micromanage, but that's what we have to do.  i had to stop weighing every day. now, i only weight weekly and on the 19th (my surgery date) to get my monthly loss.  i only lost 7.2 lbs this month!  imagine how difficult it is for me to get my head around that.  BUT when looking at the big picture, i've lost 46.8 lbs in the last three months, which is MUCH easier to accept.

i hope this helps.

Thanks, this actually helps. My hospital loss might have been a combination of stomach and water weight, but either case, I'm going to count it. After adding up all the little pieces, I have to remind myself that I've lost 44 lbs since Jan 6th. I guess that's not bad, when I look at the big picture. I just thought the weeks after surgery would be the big losses, but I have to accept that my body is going to do it's own thing. Thanks again.

your body is still adjusting....it was major surgery....your body has to catch up.  hang in there.

I'm literally in the exact same boat. My 2 weeks was Monday, and I haven't lost anything in the last 5 days. I lost 10lbs on my 8 day preop diet and then lost 12 since, but now the scales not moving. I had all these lofty goals for where I'd be at certain stages and now I'm feeling like those will likely not happen. I'm trying very hard not to get discouraged, but that's hard!

Don't worry that happened to me and now the scale is moving.
