Barium swallow leak test

My follow up barium swallow is on Tuesday morning. I am stressing about being able to drink the barium. How much do you have to drink? It takes me an hour to drink 8 oz of protein shake.

I had mine the day after surgery and had to take about 2-4 sips. I can't remember. It was disgusting. :P Good luck!

Yeah, it's only a few sips. It's different from normal barium, where you have to drink a cupful. Just *grimace* and bear it.

I had to take a couple gulps, it was hard! I didn't throw up but I really wanted to, my test was about 24 hours after surgery. It's just one of those things you got to do...

I am 5 weeks out and never had to do this. I am always curious why and never thought to ask my surgeon at my follow-up appts. Do some doctors just not do it?
