OMG, OMG, OMG, I ate something that wasn't liquid, and it was SO AWESOME!
Half a string cheese snack that went down in the best of ways. I'm on Day 13, but have been drinking in volume easily, so I decided it was time to try something on the Puree list. I feel transported to heaven.
Now I have to remind myself that even though this tastes and feels good, FOOD DOES NOT EQUAL HAPPINESS!
I don't know your plan because it wasn't mentioned, but just make sure you are following your surgeon's plan! You don't want to advance food stages before he/she recommends :-)
That being said, the first bite of something non-liquid is great! I started with a little cheese too, then went to soft homemade chili.
You made a good point about food not equal-ing happiness. But I think it's something each person has to figure out on their own. What is a trigger for you? Did you binge before? Were your portions out of control? Can you not eat sweets without going nuts? Food doesn't have to taste bad after weight loss surgery. I think it's more important now than ever for it to taste good, but be fuel for our bodies. Just because I am losing weight and was morbidly obese does not mean I need to be punished by eating gross or bland foods. I rejoice in the fact that I can now reward my body with healthy, delicious food and use it as fuel to grow.
Congratulations on moving ahead and welcome to the loser's bench!
Not to worry; I'm definitely following my surgeon's plan. It was a relief to move on from liquids, though, and I was sort of surprised by how much so. I must have unconsciously believed, somewhere, that I would never eat "real" food again.
The food not equaling happiness thing is key for me. As an emotional eater, the liquids-only weeks have been invaluable, allowing me to look at my head hunger and learning to bear it because there was no way I could indulge myself without hurting myself. I need to learn to transfer that bottomline understanding from the liquid stage to the regular food stage, too, and not just because my stomach is smaller, now, but because an excess of food will ALWAYS mean I am hurting myself. For me, this is easy to understand intellectually, but really really really difficult to integrate in a deeper way.
Thanks for the welcome!
Awesome. :)
