I can't say you're paranoid, but then I am pretty open about the surgery on what I would call my dysfunctional stomach. If people don't like it they can lump it.
SLEEVED 21 May 14 with Dr. B. Greene. Max weight 470 lifetime; 395 pre-op; goal weight 190. Current weight 217; 178 lost so far, 27 to go and keep off.
My surgery is June 10th, but I feel the same way. I read a lot of the forums on FB, but I would never post there. I told a few of my closest friends and family about the surgery, but I really don't feel like it's anyone else's business. I even worry about posting pictures in the future to FB because I dread the 'You've lost weight! How did you do it?' comments.
I would join a WLS fb group If I could find a secret or closed group that family and friends couldn't see I was a part of or my activity within the group. I've had mixed reactions by the few I have told about my decision to get sleeved and more than anything would like to keep some discretion about my WL journey as I am a somewhat private person in a small town.
I am a member of one group, it was those that had WLS the same month as me. Once we all joined it went so private/closed, what every not a FB tech. So you can't even see the members. All the other "private" groups I want to join you can see the members so you would show up. I need to find out how to make and ID.
I haven't mentioned my surgery on fb either and when people ask about my weight loss I tell them I have drastically cut my calories and increased my exercise--which is all true. I just don't tell them about the tool I have from surgery. I would like to join private groups on fb and I'll let you know if I find any.
I belong to my ex-support group's FB page. It's private so none of my friends can see.
Once I lose 100 pounds I do plan on sharing/bragging on FB. I'll link to my TrendWeight and say "so this is a thing I've done." And I will be super proud to share my success and my surgery with my friends :D
But not until I've lost 100. And I've never really posted pics on FB, so I doubt anyone will comment on my loss before then!
