Insurance denials and protein allergies
The last few days were not that great. I found out my insurance denied me on Friday. The PA sent an appeal this afternoon so I'm hoping that's all I need for approval. I'm trying not to get worked up about it.
Also, I'm still itchy from the Whey protein isolate that I had last night (Jay Robb brand) and I was wondering if anyone knew of good ones that didn't have whey. So far it looks like Premier, Isopure, GNC, etc all have whey. I've been drinking EAS Carb lite for several years (has milk & soy protein), but I'm already tired of them so I know they won't last long. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Raw Fit (or other "RAW" products) are plant based proteins. Orgain (love their pre made shakes) just came out with an all plant based protein powder. I just ordered off Amazon and should have in a few days, if it's anything like their meal replacement shakes (taste-wise) it will be amazing!
Good Luck with your appeal!
I am allergic to soy and whey so protein powder was a major issue for me. There are plenty of plant based proteins but most do not meet the bariatric guidelines because they have fiber (which is not ok for quite a while after surgery) or they don't have enough protein (20 grams). I was lucky enough to find a few that work. Manitoba hemp pro 70 is great. It has to be the 70 and not the other hemp options. The 70 has enough protein. It also has no artificial sweetener. I like it being unsweetened because i can add my own and control how sweet my shake is. You can get it at vitamin shoppe online. Another one is plant fusion. And there is also egg protein. I like the jay robb brand but there are many. Vitamin shoppe also makes their own. Hope this helps.don't give up. Fight to get approved. Get different insurance if you have to!
Why is fiber not okay for you? I've been adding Benefiber to my shakes since my second week post-op with my surgeon's advice and blessing.

This is what my NUT replied when I asked her about it - "You can choose whichever protein supplement you like or can tolerate so the next best thing is soy since rice and sprout are not high protein sources. The important thing is to be mindful of nutritional parameters: 15-20 grams protein, < 7 grams sugars and < 5 grams fat. The ones with fiber is fine as long as it has the appropriate grams of protein. Hope this helps!"
