I had a glass 4 weeks out. I tried it at home first to see how i would react. I am in NO WAY condoning this...I can have a drink or two when i want now with no issue but I do feel the effects quicker. However, keep in mind, alcohol does play with the scale so if you are not mentally focused to accept the water retention/scale movement b/c of adding alcohol back in, then I would refrain from it. And definitely consult your surgeon for their take on it.

I had 1/2 glass of champagne 7 months after surgery - and it hit me HARD!  Please don't look to be doing any drinking for a long, long time.  And when you do, make sure it's at home in a controlled environment so you can figure out how it will affect you.

My surgeon said 3 to 4 months for wine. I had half a glass at three months, but I don't really like drinking in general. It got me a little tipsy and it didn't bother my sleeve at all.

On my plan the recommendation was to not consume until 2- 3 months after surgery. I had my first taste of wine about 2 months out. I poured maybe an ounce and half of wine and sipped slowly in the comfort of my own home after a meal. It hit me quick with a slight buzz..then the buzz disappeared as quickly as it came. Now..I indulge in alcohol from time to time when I know I have an event coming up. For example I have a close friend's 40th b-day party in 2 weeks and I'm already strategizing what I will be eating the day before and day of..and allowing myself to have 1-2 glasses of wine at the party..factoring all calories. Doing the same for my cousin's wedding in August. To drink randomly to me right now is just not worth the extra calories. However..everyone is different and has different plans that they follow. You'll figure out your own way :-)

My first glass was not until well into my maintenance.  I now have wine regularly, about 3-5 glasses a week without any issues.  Wine is the very first thing that I cut out when I want to lose a few pounds.  There are many good reasons to refrain from drinking calories early on, and even in maintenance, but we all must choose our paths and our poison.  :)

I had my first drink at 6 months.  I currently drink about one glass of wine a week.  One glass of wine hits me very hard.  I NEVER drive after even one.  Beer is off my diet  due to the carbonation.

I had a 1/2 glass of wine 5 months out.  I had no trouble with the wine, but I did retain water the next few days and it seemed to mess with my weight loss.  So, for the most part, I stay away from wine.  On special occasions, I will have a glass, but mostly, I'd prefer to lose weight  more than drinking wine.

Before I started the weight loss, I used to like drinking a glass of wine most days.  Now I drink herbal teas, and I find I enjoy that as much.  I think its just the habit of having something special in the evenings.

best wishes,

Carol
