Someone mentioned that i would have to give it up since I'm having this surgery. Thats not forever right? Alcohol, okay. Desserts, I'll live. But no spicy food ever and i might die.

My nut said spicy food is ok but you cannot drink with your meal.  So only spicy that you can tolerate without drinking something to cool the burn.

As long as your stomach tolerates it, spicy food is fine.

The only issue I have with spicy food is that, if it's too hot, I still have to wait 30 minutes to take a drink!  So just keep that in mind :)

Your new tiny stomach will definitely tell you if spicy food is ok. I do ok with mexican food, but the other day I had something spicy from Popeye's and it was a no go. I started using cayenne in my bouillion broth right after surgery and haven't had a problem. Everyone is different, though. Don't let it put you off from surgery, you eat so little the first 6 months that spicy shouldn't be a deal breaker :)

Peace be with you

Colleen

Thanks! I think everything going to be a little strange for the 1st 6 months to a year. I'm hoping a can go back to my normal foods (minus all the bad stuff) after that though. So its nice to know spicy food isn't off the table forever. thanks!!

I'm Mexican and as soon as I was cleared for solids I was eating all the different kinds of chiles/salsas/etc of spicy foods I was eating before surgery. No problems, I'm into the extremely spicy stuff so I was concerned maybe my new sleeve wouldn't be able to handle it, but it does. Just try it and see.

My NUT advised that I should wait 2-3 months before eating spicy food. She said it's important that my stomach heals.

I think everyone has their own idea of what spicy is, right?!

I loved spicy food before surgery and I feel the same way post op. I've tried various dishes at Indian and Mexican restaurants and had no issues. Follow the guidelines your bariatric center gives you....I'm sure you have noticed (from reading posts by others) no two doctors, nutritionists, etc will give you the same "rules".

It will take time to heal and a longer time to see what your new tummy tolerates.

Best of luck on your journey!
