Extended Pre Op Diet is going to be a true test of character and will. Bring it On!
My pre op diet is going to be fun to say the least. Due to my weight and BMI, I will have an extended pre op diet that will be 4 weeks minimum but could go to 6 weeks. Here is how it works....
3 Optifast800 Shakes per day
1 Optifast Bar or Soup twice per day
64+ oz water, or flavored water (propel, crystal light)
1-2 "freebies" per day. (Celery, SF Jello, SF Popsicle, Cukes)
Looks challenging, but I am up for it! Anyone else had to go beyond 4 weeks on pre op diet?

I did not, but you're absolutely approaching it with the right attitude! Just remember that every day you stick to your pre-op diet you will be dropping weight and making it safer for surgery. You got this!!

Nope.
However, as I was staring in shock when my Dr. gave me 3 weeks, he told me about a patient with a 3 or 4 week preop diet who found it easier than expected and lost so much weight that he called the doc and pushed back his surgery a couple weeks, then called the doc back and pushed back the surgery 2 more weeks, the called the doc back again and the doc said let me guess you want to reschedule. Nope, the patient was finally tired of protein shakes and popsicle's and ended up at nearly 9 weeks on the preop diet.
Good luck!
wow 9 weeks is crazy...lol

My surgeon required a four week pre op diet, but since I'm slightly OCD, I started at six weeks prior to surgery. After reading some horror stories on OH about people going into surgery, getting sliced open and the surgeon closing them back up because their livers had not reduced in size, I was paranoid about it happening to me. I wanted no complications or excuses for failure.
I lost 27 pounds pre op and was glad I did it. I had all my food funerals long before I started the pre op diet so there were no excuses for temptations. It also helped put me into a good mindset of how I would eat/drink post surgery.

I did not have to go that long; just 2 weeks for me. You seem to have a great attitude about all your posts, so I think you will sail through! Good luck to you.

I have been on the pre-op diet (Self imposed) for 23 days now. I have 2 shakes a day, and then a meal. I have been under 1500 calories on almost every day. I think I have gotten to 1800 2 or 3 times. I am now 11 pounds lighter than when I started, so I will be good to go when I actually start the mandatory pre-op diet on 4 September. The mandatory one will not be much different. They said to still eat one meal with lean meat and vegetables. My BMI is now down to 37.5, and will be even lower when I have the VSG. I hope that will make the surgery easier, and the recovery too.
Best of luck
I started with a 2 week diet but it got pushed to 3 weeks due to a snow storm that required my surgery to be rescheduled. For me, the challenge was just that the constant shakes were boring. I didn't actually have trouble with hunger as i found the shakes to be filling enough to last until the next meal.
