At Surgeon's Goal - 60% EWL at 6 months
Well, I made my first big goal...the surgeon's goal of 60%EWL. I am NOT done, but they just give a generic average success type goal. I want to be at about 85+% EWL (50 or so more pounds).
The big news is that I am pregnant (7.5 weeks along). This wasn't planned, I know the rules with WLS, but we were actively preventing and it happened anyways. We are accepting this blessing and taking things as they come.
My BP is LOW for me at 100/60 dipping lower when I stand up causing significant lightheadedness, so I will be talking to my docs about that. My blood sugar is fine - I ruled that out as the cause of the woozy spells. The morning sickness is there, manageable, better if I keep something in my stomach, and worse when I take my vitamins. It is a balancing act to get the vits in, meet my protein goals, and keep the nausea at bay. I think I will ask for Zofran this week.
I see the WL clinic this week for my 6 month follow up and the OB next week. I am afraid of the WL doc shaming me for getting pregnant and I fear they will be more interested in lecturing me than working with me to keep me and baby healthy. My OB is supportive - she's had VSG too and understands what I am capable of as far as growing babies too.
I've gotten my calories up to about 1500 a day which also helps with the nausea. I've added some carbs, more dairy, and of course saltine crackers to my diet to get through the day. I'm still losing a little, but it has slowed down a lot the past couple weeks.
I have 2 kids (age 2 & 4) and they were both born at my highest weight (370s) so being pregnant in the lower half of the 200s should be a whole new experience for me. I had pregnancy high BP with them and was high risk and had BIG babies (9 & 11 pounders)...now I will be monitored for low BP and slow growth - should be interesting.
My husband and I are joking around that he should have a "V" done while he is under for his RNY in early 2015.

Congrats!
I feel your feels. My BP is low and I, too, get lightheaded if I stand up too fast. I found that taking my Alive gummy vitamins and staying very hydrated really made a difference. My son told me that before I stand up, I should tense my stomach muscles and pump my lower legs a few times to get the blood going in the right direction (my head). It works fairly well!
Peace be with you
Colleen
Congratulations! And if your OB shames you, you need a new doctor.
My OB won't, I already talked to her - she is practical and confident it will be ok...the WLS doc might though!
That's the part I am most worried about...the WLS clinic giving me a hard time. I had to sign a WLS "contract" before surgery that said I wouldn't get pregnant for 18months minimum.
