honeymoon period
The honeymoon can last as long as you want it to. I think it is cycle of results and excitement and dedication. Early on you will have great - FAST results which causes lots of excitement and renews your dedication. If you let the excitement lead you away from your plan (rewards), your honeymoon will be over quickly. If you can remain on plan and stay excited & dedicated even when the results come slower the honeymoon and last a long time!
Good luck!
I love this response, Stacy! In my observations, the honeymoon ending in the first year or so is more about people having diet fatigue and letting things slip back into their diet than a physiological change. I'm hoping that through sheer strength of will (haha) that I can stay "hardcore" for a good while yet - I'm DETERMINED to make it to 100% EWL.
Lots of people just calculate it based on their goal weight so current weight - goal weight = excess weight.
I used ideal weight calculators and calculated based on that. So current weight - ideal weight = excess weight.

I feel like, for VSG, the honeymoon phase is a myth. For RNY, it makes sense as the malabsorption only lasts a limited time, but for VSG, we don't have that.
I think people fool themselves that the honeymoon is over because they've really started reverting back to bad habits and letting snacks slip in and portions creep up and other bad choices.

I agree with Gwen. If you do what you're supposed to do, you will lose weight. When you start back with eating things you know you shouldn't and increasing your quantities, weight loss will be affected. Then again, what do I know? I'm only nine months out from surgery.
I think it's a matter of what's in your head. I don't have a lot of sympathy for people who tell me they "can't" do something. It's a matter of personal commitment. I know I can lose weight like a mofo, but it's always been a problem keeping it off. This will be a new experience for me WHEN, not IF, I get to maintenance.
I do miss booze though. Damn.
