4 Days after surgery and exhausted....is this normal?

I had surgery Monday and they found a hernia that had to be repaired on top of the original surgery.  I had a horrible time with nausea and a low grade fever until last night. I have slept non-stop until today.  This afternoon I am finally feeling human but have so little energy. Is this normal? I have lost 3 pounds since surgery which is good because they had to douse me with fluids because of the nausea (i was up 5 pounds when I came home).  Other than that I have had no pain and I am not hungry.  Just a little worried about the exhaustion. Thanks everyone!

Totally normal!  You just had major surgery and your body is healing and recovering!  Sip as much as you can - make sure to get your fluids and proteins in, and walk as much as you're able to, even if you don't want to.

Very normal.  Your body is pulling all of its energy to help you heal.

Get some rest, but do try to get up and walk around a bit to prevent DVT from occurring.  And as Gwen said, keep sipping those fluids.

I was soooooooooooooooo tired for about two weeks. Totally normal. It will come back. Just take it easy on yourself, walk, and get lots of fluids.

I also took sublingual B12, and that seemed to help.

I had mine on Monday. It truly is amazing what your body is doing right now.  My BP was 90/60 Tuesday and my surgeon wanted to now why the nurses hadn't gotten me up to walk.  As soon as I started walking my BP came up. I still tire easy, it is normal. Walk the halls in your house, anything will help. It gets better every day.  Walk, walk, walk, sip, sip, sip.

Nope. After major surgery you should be ready to do heavy workouts and gymnastics the next day.   :)

What exactly were you expecting?  This is a little more than having a cavity filled.  I was extremely listless for a good 5 weeks.

The nausea and some of the fatigue is probably due to dehydration.  You need to be getting 64oz of fluids daily, no ifs ands or butts.  It's a full time job and it's hard as hell, but non-negotiable or you're about to start feeling much, much worse.

Thanks everyone for your support.  I expected to be tired as I know this was a huge surgery I just didn't expect to this exhausted. I am moving around and sipping away.  Thanks for the encouragement.
