How bruised is too bruised?

So I knew I was gonna bruise but what are the stages of bruises I guess how can you tell if you need to be worried. 

My post-op bruise around the biggest incision seemed to grow for a couple days after surgery, and it ended up being pretty big .. but it never hurt.

My bruises were relatively small, like 2 inches around or so....if it concerns you, call the doctor just to be sure.. maybe Google images of vsg post op bruising to get an idea of what other's experienced. I am sure you could find a few to reference yours to...

I called the hospital and they reassured me that what I was seeing was normal. 

Remember that you were likely given blood thinners to prevent clots from forming post-op and so any bruising you may experience will look a lot worse than it probably is.

I have some pictures on my profile of my bruising. It was pretty extensive but didn't hurt much and went away in about a month or so.

 my whole belly was like a rainbow , red purple yellow  a little green , called the surgeon to check about it and was told it was normal

 I was on blood thinners for 1 month (oach) I have a clotting problem called lupus anticoagulant antigen(not lupus)  that  courses blood clots (also miscarriages)  it was discovered in the pre op blood testing

My wife and I had it done on the same day... about three weeks ago. She had a lot of bruising around the incisions. She still has some bruising. Much better but it hasn't gone away completely. I didn't bruise at all.
