I seen this last night and found this interesting. The video cites a 4% leak risk with traditional VSG (I thought the National Average was actually 1%), and a near 0% chance with this procedure. To me it looks like over sewing. My staple line is going to be over sewed. I also wonder if a larger bougie would be needed to prevent stenosis or stricture since the staple line will be inside the stomach.

Never seen this type of procedure before.  My surgeon will be at my support group tonight, and I'll ask him about it.  Thanks for posting it.

Just curious what your surgeon had to say last night.

He said that he'd never heard the term "inverted gastric sleeve" used before.  He said that it sounds like what surgeons are currently doing by stitching over the staple line.  I told him that the staple line looks like it's been folded into the stomach, and he asked me if it could have been the stomach plication procedure.  I told him that I don't think it's the same thing.  He was going to review the youtube link and I hope I'll get more feedback from him.

He did say that the 4% leak rate that was quoted is the highest number he's ever heard.  He said the national average is around 2%.  He's done about 2,000 sleeves and never had a leak yet.  But he was clear to point out that even though it hasn't happened to him personally, anything is possible at any time.

He was not aware of this particular surgeon, but thinks he's just doing the surgery the way most surgeons are currently doing it and calling it by a new name.

That's what I was thinking too. Looks like over sew to me. I'm sure it may make some surgeons upset because of the trademark.
