High cholesterol at 3 month visit

I've never had high cholesterol before..now 3 months after surgery I have a # of 265...kinda freaking out..anyone else have this?

Yes - the entire time I was obese and morbidly obese I never had high cholesterol.  However, my "good" cholesterol was never in the ideal range.  After surgery, my good cholesterol (HDL) almost doubled, which of course makes my overall cholesterol number high.  

Just think about it:  what do we eat a lot of in the early days post-op?  Lots of eggs, seafood, cheese, meat...all things that are higher in cholesterol.  

My doctor isn't worried about it yet because all my other numbers are so good.   Especially at 3 months, I wouldn't allow myself to freak out over this.  The numbers you see at one year post-op are going to be a lot more important than short-term fluctuations like this.

My cholesterol was always fine when I was obese.  Then when I was in weight loss, it went up.  My NP thought it might be temporary - with all the fat my body was burning for fuel.  So I decided to hold off on any meds until my next blood work.  I'll keep you posted on whether it falls by itself.  I'm hopeful it will.
