I generally use fiber gummies.  I like the Fiber Advantage that I get at Walmart.  They're shaped like gumdrops and have a nice taste and texture.  Early on, I did two doses per day, but now I do 1 dose, as needed.  Smooth Move tea is also very helpful when you get backed up, and doesn't taste bad.  Those have worked well for me.  I also try to get a lot of dietary fiber as well.  I don't know where you're at in your recovery, so what you can or can't eat at this stage could make a difference.  I'm 3 1/2 years out, so I have no dietary restriction, except for the foods I choose not to eat.

I an 4 months out...what dietary fiber do you recommend?

I just realized that products such as Metamucil, are dietary fiber.  I actually meant fiber in my diet.  I try to eat lots of salads and other raw veggies.  I will eat low carb pitas or wraps that have several grams of fiber.  Joseph's has oat bran and flax pita and lavash breads, and tortillas that are quite low in carbs and have a lot of fiber.  The breads tend to fall apart easily.  The tortillas work well for fajitas and burritos, and my whole family eats them.  I also just found a brand of wraps that I can't remember the name of, that are low carb and calorie.  I get the multi-grain and I believe it has 6-8 carbs, but 4 or so grams of fiber, and actually tastes good and doesn't fall apart.  I also add a couple of tablespoons of bran buds to my greek yogurt - can't really taste it, but gives crunch.  If I have the occasional protein bar, I get one that's low carb and high in fiber.   I just look for products I'd use and check the carb and fiber contents.

Every morning I don't poop, I add miralax to my protein shake.  I only need to do this a few times each month and it works well.  Miralax is a non-stimulant laxative, so your body won't form a dependence on it.

I do the miralax daily. If I don't go for 1 day I eat some prunes, but that is rare. Also, it seem that the farther out one gets the easier it is to regulate. In the first few weeks I was miserable. I do try to get some fiber everyday. Now from food but in the beginning from fiber gummies.

Ugh, I've been struggling bad with this recently. I'm seeing my surgeon and dietician next week for a one-year follow-up, so I'm going to talk to them about it. I don't want to be dependent on something, but I don't need an impaction or anything either!

this has been an issue for me as well, but when I was discussing how to get more veggies in with my NUT...still have pretty limited capacity... we discussed throwing veggies into my protein shake...so I added baby spinach and baby kale in with some fruit and holy cow!! talk about colon cleanse....was much quicker than miralax has been... lol
