It has been a while since i have been on. Wanted to drop a quick update. I hit my goal weight of 250 (down from 537) just before my 1 year mark. After that I wanted to get a panni done as I have some excess skin that I don't like. My insurance approved the panni and I am scheduled for the 23rd.

I am actually down to 231 and am on liquids again to drop some more weight prior to surgery.

My surgeon also referred me to a plastic surgeon about adding some more work at the same time to minimize my out pocket, so I visited him last week. Now I am getting a panni and extended abdominoplasty. The plastic surgeon is also going to tighten up my groin area so basically chest to groin will be done. I will have 2 surgeons working on me at the same time and I was able to negotiate a fantastic rate.

I have three more procedures planned over the next 18-24 months. Breasts (I'm a dude), thighs and back.

That is fantastic.  There is a line in the book Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies:  Weight loss surgery gave me back my health, plastic surgery gave me back my self-esteem.

Real life begins where your comfort zone ends

Wow! You have done an outstanding job and are such an inspiration! Good luck with the plastics! I had the TT and muscle tightning and it makes a huge difference! Great job to keep working on it too!

Wow. Congratulations on your success.  I'm so pleased that you will do the plastics.  I was so happy I did my abdominoplasty.  It really makes a difference in how I feel about myself.

Please keep us posted.

How was the recovery after your plastics, meaning what did it entail if you don't mind me asking.

My recovery was AMAZING!  I had surgery early afternoon, and was up and walking by 7pm, just a few hours after waking up.  The nurse commented that I was doing better than people half my age!

I had no side effects of the anesthesia - no headache, no drowzyness.   My surgeon was surprised when he came in for the morning check in that I was up, watching NETFLIX and knitting like nothing had happen.  He told everyone in his office about it and from then on I was known as the knitter! heheehe.

I had drains for about 5 days, and they were a bother and annoying, but not painful.  My incision was mostly numb because the nerves were cut, so I didn't have much pain at all.  I did not have to have my muscles tightened, as they were firm and didn't have gaps.  I understand that if they have to cut the muscle, the healing is more painful.

You have to be careful not to pull on the incision, so I had to wear compression garments for some weeks and keep the incisions taped up for support.  Also, there was periodic replacement of the tape and gauze.  Again, not fun, but not terrible.

All in all, it was so worth doing.  I love having a flat tummy again. In a way I feel like a teen again, and that's great for a 67 year old grandmother!

best wishes,

Carol
