"How much have you lost?"

Oh yes, I get asked that over and over.  I'm really proud of my 97 pound loss so far, but not everyone needs to know the exact number.  One of my acquaintances asked me how much I weigh, and I just came back with, "How much do I WEIGH?  Would you ask anyone else that question?"  That shut her down, and she apologized for being so personal.

Why do people think that my WLS gives them permission to be so intrusive.

If someone was being nosey, I liked saying, "Why? Are you interested in having weight loss surgery? I can give you my surgeons number." I even said it to thin people. It pissed them off and I thought it was funny.

Hang in there. The comments do eventually stop.

Sometimes, I would tell people. Actually, most of the time I would tell people if they asked me 1-1. But, I had a few instances where people would literally shout across a room full of people "HOW MUCH WEIGHT HAVE YOU LOST?!" and when that happened I would chuckle and say "Oh, it is a lot!" and leave it at that.... nobody ever pushed the issue after I responded in that way.

I must be in the total minority.  I have NO problem telling people how much I've lost.  LOL

Neither did I when I had a lap band. Be honest with yourself- this upsets you because these  people most likely knew you before and you should probably be thankful that they never said what they really thought when you were so much larger. They are thrilled to see you in such better shape - like it or not obese people are a subject of pitty and that's just how it is. Blame all the weight loss exploitation tv shows.  I'm just thankful that now they don't run up to me and say "OMG how much have you gained???" Now that would be upsetting- not afraid to shout out here- 55 POUNDS- but vsg scheduled 1 week from today and I can't wait to be asked how much I've lost?
