Trust me, I never in a million years thought it would happen that quick. I really like my surgeon but his whole process made it feel like a cosmetic procedure. His location is right around the area where there are lots of plastic surgeons with their fancy offices. I only used him because I know he does a good job and I have this site. I am so fortunate this site exists!!!

I have my fingers crossed for you!

I did the online seminar and scheduled my first appointment on March 6th. It took a month to get in, and then I had three months of nutrition appointments. I met with my surgeon June 8th and got my surgery date on June 10th. Surgery was July 25th. So, 4.5 months.

  • Seminar to submitting paperwork (12 days, 12 days total)
  • Submitting paperwork to consults (38 days, 50 days total) -- had an H. Pylori treatment in here
  • Consult to Submission to Insurance (19 days, 69 days total) -- took 14 days to get all the paperwork together to submit for approval which bothered me.  One of the doctor's did not submit their dictations for almost two weeks.
  • Submission to Insurance to Approval (13 days, 82 days total)
  • Insurance Approval to Surgery (30 days, 112 days total)

I actually decided that I was going to pursue this on day 12, so it will take 100 days on the nose from the day I made the choice.

The last step hasn't happened yet, but it is scheduled.  H. Pylori cost me 10 days (had to do course of treatment before they'd schedule my consults).  I had already done more than 6 months with my PCP, or you could have added 180 days to this total.  Not sure on that last part, it was never really clear to me.  We submitted it all anyhow.

5 months from my decision to do it - 4 months from first Doctor appointment.  I had to have 6 months of doctor visits about weight for insurance - they allowed a couple with my PCP prior to first surgeons visit.

My company insurance excludes WLS so I was a cash payer. However, it still took a little over 5 months to go from my decision on April 16th to move forward until I had the procedure done this past Monday, September 26th.  I could have had it done much quicker but Dr. John Oldham is one of only three surgeons in KY that qualify for BLIS Insurance coverage for cash payers.  He stays very busy.
