Hi Lab Gurus...

I was hoping I could get some lab help. I've uploaded my labs to a Google Docs...and hopefully this link works:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ArXBqqpzidyqdFN LX3EtaGF6ZDVWdTV1a0dBSnhTSVE&hl=en_US

Has my labs pre-VSG as well as ~3mo and 1yr values. 1 yr labs were drawn after 3 days of no supplementation.

Looking for advice as I feel tired. I'm bruising like a peach and my nails are all ridgey and splitting. Nothing is obvious to me though at 1yr, my D is (too) high and my protein is def. going the wrong way.

Current supplement schedule (I take a lot for a VSGer...):
Centrum multi: twice a day
Citracal petites, 400mg: 4x day
Bifera: 1x day (when I remember...I'm not so good at this...)
Biotin, 5000mcg: 1x day
Coromega packets: 2x day
Flax oil capsule, 1000mg: 2x day
Super B complex: 1x day
MgOxide, 500mg: 2x day
B12, 5000mcg: 3x week
VitD, 50,000IU: 2x week (obviously reduce that...1x a week? 1x every other week?)

Advice? Should I be concerned about the protein trend? There's a few of us on the VSG board that are noticing our protein values decreasing despite the party line that we don't malabsorb so wondering if I need to add an additional shake or two. I already get 35g from one shake and aim for a total of 70-80g a day. Most days it is closer to 90-100g.

Thanks!
Michelle

I can tell you that you are one of the few lucky ones to get D values that high from 2x 50K IU dry D3 per week.  I was on 4 of the 50K IU dry D3 for over 2 years, and my D levels attained a high of 65 from the past 5 years post op life.  I've now bumped it up to one 50K IU daily, in hopes of getting to 80-90. Labs late this month and I'll adjust as needed then. But actual lab values vary a lot from the same vitamin dosage between patients, as we're all different.  DAVE

I was def. shocked about the D. Pre-op, my D was in the toilet with a value of 7. and even supplementing for 3 months only got it up to 43. I just need to find a healthy balance as my NUT's suggestion of discontinuing all D and calcium supplementation is obviously the WRONG idea.

My mom has osteopenia so I'm trying to avoid that path. :)

I would not discontinue these supplements. Back off from 2 of the 50K IU dry D3 per weeks to maybe 1 every 5 days or so. I know this may be problematic to remember, but going down to 1 per week may not be enough to sustain an 80-90 number.  I would still stay around 1600-1800mg of calcium citrate daily.  I too have ostopenia at age 65, based on my bone scan about 1 1/2 years ago.   DAVE

Michell,
My Endocrinologist has me taking Vitamin D (all sources) 4000 iu daily and calcium 1600 - 1800 mg daily. I had low D also and she treated me with 50,000 iu weekly for 14 weeks, then down to 4000 daily.  I am maintaining now.  My calcium level is maintaining also.  I had a parathyroid tumor which miscontrolled my calcium level, so I'm being monitored to make sure the levels stay correct.

To reach the Vitamin D of 4000 iu, I take 2000 iu daily in addition to what I get in the calcium and multi.  Hope this helps.

These all look really good.  As Dave suggested, you might decrease the D3 slightly to taking 50,000 IU every five days or so.  Your nut is a nut if she thinks you should stop taking it altogether!
