I guess this depends on your program. We had multiple visits with the nutritionist pre-op as we were required to lose 8% of our body weight to have surgery. We also had a very long teaching appointment 2 weeks before surgery to go over the first couple of weeks eating post op. As far as the surgeon goes, we did not see the surgeon until all of the other requirements were met. ( sleep study, 2 months compliance on CPAP if necessary, 6 lifestyle changes classes, 2 pre-op sypport group meetings, psych eval...... The list goes on...... a very difficult comprehensive program!)
Most patients are not meeting with the surgeon for at least 4-6 months. During this meeting she/he just goes over the procedure in great detail to make sure you understand the risks/benefits and hoes over your medical history and testing to make sure you are in the best possible shape for a safe surgery.
Good luck on your journey!
