Here's why I'm leaning toward VSG. What do you think?

Is there a chance you might have a hernia causing the reflux?  

Nope.  I've had reflux for years, and had an endoscopy a couple years ago to make sure there wasn't anything wrong with my esophagus.  Thanks for offering that as a suggestion though.  :D

I have a DS, so I have a Sleeved stomach. Pre-op, my reflux was horrible. Most nights I slept sitting up, it was so bad. I'm 10.5 years post-op, and I have had ZERO reflux since surgery.

Those are all reasons that factored into my choice.  Why is your surgeon pushing RNY?  Does he have VSG experience?  

I think all of the reasons you listed were why I chose the sleeve over the RNY.  Mainly because I didn't like the idea of rerouting intestines.

I would ask your surgeon how many VSGs he's performed.  It may be a case that he's more comfortable with the RNY and trying to push you in that direction.  My surgeon left the decision up to me, and I have a lot more weight to lose than you do.

Agreed! I wasn't super jazzed about that much surgery and having everything re-routed. More surgery means more things that need to heal. Nothanks! haha

I chose the sleeve for pretty much the same reasons you listed,  so I think your logic is sound!  :-) My surgeon also recommends avoiding NSAIDS even with the sleeve, but if you have to take them the sleeve is definitely the better choice.  I'm still early but I love my sleeve! 

Thanks for the replies everyone! I think that saying my surgeon was "pushing" RNY was overstating. When I went for my consultation, he indicated that he felt it was the best choice for me and was not overly concerned about my needing to take exedrine a couple of times a week. I know he has extensive surgery with both ( hundreds if Vsg's and thousands of RNY s so I don't think it's a question of experience. It was this lines about "gold standard"' "long term data" etc. in my subsequent research, I'm not sure it sits right. I am open to have him convince me otherwise, but wanted to see if my reasoning made any sense first, so thanks for that, I have worked in the hospital where my surgeon is for years and taken care of many of his patients, so I do trust him and respect his opinions. And given that, I believe he has enough respect for me not to push me end way or another for financial reasons ( though I don't doubt that happens frequently.) I really appreciate all of the words of wisdom here and am sure I'll be asking a few more question over the next couple of months. Still in shock! They told me on Friday it would be a couple of weeks before my insurance approval and then I got the call today! S**t just got real!
