Running questions happiness motivation

So I am almost 3 mo out from my sleeve. I have been running 5-6 days per week. I was very happy/motivated and then some friends signed up for a 5k sept 20, so I decided thats a good goal and signed up as well. Ever since I feel that I am putting too much pressure on myself and feel like I'm not doing enough etc i know this is completely a mental block I have going on and I need some advice or motivation. Thanks.

You say how often you run, but not how much.

Check out some of the 5K training programs on line to see if you are on target for a 5K that is happening in 6 weeks.

You still have ample time to get ready, and there is no shame in walking part of the course.

Many people do a walk-run pace .....like walking 1 minute, ru Ning 3 or 4 or more minutes.

Remember, no matter how you do, you are lapping everyone on the sidelines!!!

I currently run 2mi per day. I can usually go 1.5 before i take a break then finish the other .5 my husband said to try running outside it may be easier to see the goal however he works a lot and we have 2 small children and that's why I get on our treadmill after I put the baby to bed. And you are correct i am doing much more now than a year ago right?! 😄

You are doing GREAT!!!!

i have heard many people say that once you can do 2 miles, itisa breakthrough and you can just go and go.

The excitement of the race will carry you through quite a bit (I have walked many 5 and10 K races and 2 half marathons.

Try doing your 1.5 miles, and adding 1 minute every run or every other run ..... Before long, you will be doing 2 miles and beyond!!!

I definitely recommend checking out couch to 5k. Even if you don't feel up to starting the plan right now, it can give you an idea of how to work toward it.

For example, I started running for 1 minute out of every 5 and I've been decreasing that each week by 30 seconds. Next week I'll be running for a minute and then walking for 2!  Eek!!  I do that for 35 minutes with a warm up and a cool down on either side for a total of 65 minutes three times a week.

I signed up for a 5k in October :) The max time limit is an hour, which I know I can do now. Every second I can shave off between now and then is just icing on the cake :D

Hi DelilahJo,

Congratulations on all you have accomplished!  Did you ever think you would be posting about a 5k?  WooHoo!

As GwenMo said check out Couch-to-5K

We also have a fitness forum, check it out.

One more suggestion. Don't do it if you don't enjoy it.  When you are Moving, make sure it's fun otherwise it will seem like a chore and you won't stick to it.  Running is not for everyone, if it's your passion go for it, if not try other things.

You are doing amazing, keep it going

I am about 3.5 months out and I signed up for my first 5K on Sept 20th as well.  I plan on walking it with a goal under 55 minutes.
