Question regarding weight loss...just want to verify

So it has been one month since my surgery. I have lost a total of 42 pounds. When I went on the scale this week I actually gained a little less than a pound. Is this normal?? Could it be a stall?? I have been told that I will hit a stall because my body is getting used to the new eating habits. Is this true?? Has anyone else hit a stall so quickly??

I can tell you how to NEVER suffer from a stall, and it's super easy!

Stay off the scale. Weigh only at your doctor's office. You're going to lose at the rate your body chooses to lose, whether you weigh yourself or not. The only difference is that if you DON'T weigh frequently, you won't know it when you hit a stall---and yes, EVERYBODY has stalls. (And BTW, it's not really considered a stall until you go at least four weeks without losing---OR gaining!---pounds or inches.)

Do a search here for "Three week stall" and you'll find all sorts of good info. Having lost 42 pounds in one month means you're ahead of the game.

Well as one who also panicked when I hit my stall at 3 weeks, and then again at 8 weeks (just got over it-sleeved 8/26/14) I think I can tell you that it will definitely pass. If you YOUTUBE "Stalls regarding gastric surgery" one Dr says not only will they happen quite a few times in this weight lost journey but also that they are good for you and necessary. The body is an amazing survivor and it defends itself vigorously but once it notices a consistent routine that is not dangerous it allows it to continue. But for the time being it adjusts, computes and calculates. So just stick with what you are doing. Also I noticed that during my stalls was when I got the most comments regarding my weight loss, so usually the inches are still coming off. Actually, I just realized that after each stall was when I noticed myself that I was looking thinner. The first stall at 3 weeks lasted about 4-5 days. The last stall lasted about 10 days-or so it seemed and I gained 2lbs! Since then (this week) I lost 5 lbs-go figure?)So now, as long as I working the program, I've come to accept stalls and as hard as it may be-especially for us new ones (i'm at 9 weeks) stay away from the scale-the scale can be our worse enemy. Go with the looser clothes, how you feel and knowing you are getting healthy. Hey, at 9 weeks, I'm down 50lbs-that's amazing!! In the end, I was told it would average to about 2 lbs a week, which means it may take me the next 10 months to lose another 50-80lbs. I accept that and I'm enjoying the ride! THE PROGRAM WORKS-if we let it. Eat right, exercise, have patience. the lbs WILL COME OFF!!! Hang in there. Been there-Done that.

Day to day fluctuations are one of the reasons I use Trendweight.com for tracking my weight.  It removes all of those emotions and lets me take a step back and focus on the trend instead.  It's such a relief for me.

We'll all stall at some point, just stick to your plan and you'll reach your goals.

Thank you everyone. I kind of felt that it is normal, I just needed some reassurance. I am so happy with my decision I wouldn't change it for the world :)

yes, there are fluctuations... although I find they are very small compared to what I had pre-surgery. I have had 2 stalls already. 3 1/2 weeks and 2 weeks. The first one drove me crazy, the second one I kind of just rode the wave. My 3 1/2 week stall started 1 week after surgery. So yes it can happen very soon. Losing 42 pounds in one month is amazing... each month will be different. I do weigh myself everyday, but only record it once a week. That way little fluctuations don't bother me. Good Luck!
