I know about this first hand.  I had VBG in 1986 and suffered from severe GERD for 24 years.  The acid ate away at the muscle that closes the stomach off from the esophagus until it no longer functioned.  I was diagnosed with Barrett's Esophagus and had 6 pre-cancerous tumors removed.  I have to have an endoscopy done every year to check for cancer.  I was revised to RNY in 2010 and my GERD was completely resolved.

Don't take heartburn lightly.  It is not normal and can cause real damage.

I think a lot of people (me included) always thought it was just OK to pop a couple Tums and tough it out.  Not true!

Don't ignore Gerd or heartburn is right. That is how my gastrogastric fistula was found and diagnosed and then a need for a gastrectomy 3 months ago. The bile burned through my blind stomach into the pouch and up the esophagus.

Thank you for sharing  I think our community is very susceptible to this cancer since we live with acid reflex and heart burn for years due to our being overweight.

Regards,

Kathy
