Happy Passover and Happy Easter to those who observe and celebrate.

Ah Passover, the most carbohydrate filled holiday on the Jewish calender.  I'm not even going to bother tracking my food intake for the next 8 days.  I'll just have to explain why to my PCP when we meet next week.  I'm certain she will understand.

As with any other holiday, special event, they can be celebrated...with "traditional", and favorite foods, without going buckwild crazy. I, myself, could never allow myself to look at ANY season as a "license" to eat/drink/etc. BTDT, got the loose skin from having the regain/relose blues...big time...just NOT worth it, IMHO

After nearly 13 years of this post op living, I have learned a lot...and made a lot of mistakes..choosing not to weigh/track my intake lead to a 70 pound regain faster than I ever imagined it could...Always a personal choice, of course..as is EVERYTHING

I agree!!!  Celebrating holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. should NOT be about the food you get to eat.  People who have had WLS need to change that mindset. Making excuses about why you should be allowed to eat badly is not going to help you succeed.  That 5 pounds you gain will be a real pain to have to deal with next week.

Celebrating a holiday should be about the event itself and spending time with family.  You still have to be mindful of what you are eating and make good choices.

Yup what they said. In eight days you could do a lot of damage.

I learned this the hard way last Christmas.  Seven pounds gained in two weeks.  There is no free lunch, as economists will tell you.

I think it's important to keep celebrations to a single meal. I eat on track the rest of the time. Otherwise eating goes crazy for much too long and it gets harder to get back on track.

Happy Passover! Is there such a thing as carb-free kugel? ;-) seriously I have seen low carb Passover recipes posted on Facebook, but have no experience to recommend them. Well you do have time to consider the options and plan lower carb options for upcoming holidays and hopefully you can find some options that work for you.

I celebrate Easter, and usually cook for days and host the extended family.  As my surgery is the day after Easter, it was just too much for me to handle this year. So my SIL is hosting, and I will join the dinner with a bowl of fabulous (expensive but worth it!) lobster stock I bought just yesterday from a local restaurant, and will toast with water.  I'm grateful to have family and friends to celebrate with, and I am going to focus on that.  And I am also going to stay the heck out of the kitchen and away from the buffet!

Enjoy,

Christine

Until I got to maintenance, I never allowed myself more than a day "off" for any celebration and even then, I filled up on protein etc before looking at other things.

we need to get away from the "celebration means eating" mentality. But it is harder, I agree, pre-surgery. Just get mentally prepsred for future occasions.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

What does Passover have to do with not tracking your food intake? I celebrate holidays, special occasions, whatever, but I still track them & try to stay within my goals. I'm not so sure your pcp will understand, it will likely sound like an excuse & it's a slippery slope to start making excuses, no matter where you're at in your weight loss journey.

I'm not saying don't celebrate, but don't use it as an excuse, it won't be long b4 you're making more excuses to justify bad eating.

No one surgery is better than the other, what works for one may not work for another. T-Rebel
