Whey Isolate Protien Powder?

I'm pre-op doing my insurance requirements. My Nutritionist suggested Whey Isolate protein powder. Has anyone used this? What are your thoughts on it? I heard that Isolate is better for you and that Premier Protein is not a isolate protein!

I'm 5 months out, and my doctor really pushed 100% whey protein isolate. Apparently, from what I've read, we digest this type of protein the best (at least in liquid form? I'm not positive on that)

Bariatric Advantage and Chike were the two he sells at his office. I tried both, got frustrated with it, and went back to Premier Protein ready made shakes... my protein was a bit low at my 3 month check up, so I started thinking about other options. Luckily, it was around 3.5 months that my pouch decided to play better with dense proteins (meats), and I started eating more of that. I did, however, buy Syntrax Protein packs, and I've been using those from time to time to supplement.

So brands I'm aware of with good Whey Protein Isolates (and not just whey protein) are:

Syntrax Nectar

Bariatric Advantage

Chike

Isopure

Sprouts sells their brand of unflavored Whey Protein Isolate too, and you can use that to add to things.

I'm sure there are more as well

I have my 6 month check up in a few weeks... I really hope my protein levels are better then!

Thanks ! I've had the premier shakes. I like them too. I understand that your taste buds can change after surgery so I am researching before hand. Just want to get all my ducks in a row.

btw I had a nutrition class yester day and lost 2.4 lbs. in five days. I know it's not a great loss but it is a loss and I'm happy with it! So far I've lost a total of 11 lbs. since I've started.

That's most awesome!

I only lost 9lbs pre-op. My mind couldn't' get around the pre-surgery weight loss for some reason... and I had no goals I had to make for the surgery, so it was easier to blow it off. I do wish I had gotten more on board with it, because then I'd probably be thinner than I am now! LOL

Don't buy too many protein shake mixes now... they are expensive, and you'll likely go through a few before you find one you can tolerate. However, Amazon has a Syntrax Nectar sample pack. I believe it's like 15 different flavors you get (and I can't remember what I paid for it, but it was reasonable)... that's a great way to try out so many different flavors.

Then some people mix with skim milk/fairlife milke/ almond milke/ cashew milk... yogurt, etc. You should check out the menu post on the RNY board and you can get to know people, see tons of menu ideas, and find a place to hold yourself accountable if you want to! I love that post every day!

I liked Premier Protein before the surgery, but after(for a while) it was too thick for me to swallow. I ordered Unjury. It's isolate. 21 grams of protein per scoop mixed with water, around 30 mixed with milk. And they have a chicken soup one too for when you just can't handle anymore sweet stuff. Whatever you choose don't stock up. There was one that I liked before surgery, but after it seemed like I was drinking sand. Blessings to you and your journey.

I like the Syntrax nectar ones; I've never been able to tolerate the chocolate ones. Something about the texture always threw me off. The Syntrax ones are like Kool-Aid, and seem to have less of a funky smell than the milk-flavored ones I've tasted.

There are a few places online that will let you order a sample pack with a whole bunch of flavors, I recommend doing that for sure. That way you don't end up buying a $50 tub of something you end up hating!

I have been using Whey Tech Pro 24 for my protein powder, mixing it with almond milk. I have a slight intolerance to whey in the milk.  The Whey Protein Isolate works well for me, I have not had any issues.  I have tired the Chocolate and french vanilla post op both are good.

Yes, Isolate is best for us.  I have tried MANY different powders and dislike most of them, but I recently tried inspire protein powder and it's awesome!!
