RNY surgery questions

I'm supposed to get RNY surgery this Summer. For the past 10 years I have tried off and on to get WLS and I have seen a few different Drs to get WLS.

Why did the 2 other Drs scope and look to see how big my hatial hernial is, which is very big.

The current surgeon said he doesn't look at it before surgery for RNY.

Was it because I was going to get the sleeve with the other Drs?

also, I get dehydrated easily being 300 lbs and I have to drink lots and lots of water every day to not get headaches and migraines.

if I cannot drink much water after RNY surgery and I will not be thin overnight, how can I avoid headaches/migraines?

most of us drink water all the time. A minimum of 64 oz is recommended - there are some of us who get double that. I drink 80-96 oz a day, usually - sometimes more. Not sure where you got that idea that you can't drink much water after surgery, since it's very much encouraged.

I'm meaning not very much water in the few weeks that follow surgery.

They will tell you to try to get at least 64 oz of water every day after surgery. You'll just have to get use to constant, small sips during this time.

we were also told to try to get in 64 oz starting right after surgery. Most hospital re-admittances (sp?) are due to dehydration, so they really push water. Like someone else said, you just can't guzzle it for awhile - you have to sip it. So I pretty much sipped it all day...

My doc did not order a scope prior to my rny. He said he did find a hiatial hernia when he operated, I didn't know I had one. He repaired it and moved on.

tou will be able to drink- you won't be able to guzzle. Lots and lots of sips- and you should be fine.
