I made the decision once I started having fears that I wouldn't live to see my 60th birthday if I didn't do something about my weight. Had the surgery at age 55, and now I'm a healthy 61-year-old!

I was worried about not being around as my daughter was growing.

I was having trouble controlling my type 2 and my gp said, you're young and healthy, have you considered gastric bypass? That was all it took for me to get started on the research and commit!

I had a case manager with my mental health stuff talk about her experience. We had been talking about me needing to lose weight. She sparked the idea. Also I was taking 5 shots of insulin a day...I'd say that was my biggest motivating factor.

I was tired of being sluggish and living my life on the sidelines. I had gotten to the point where I didn't even want to visit family I hadn't seen in awhile because I was embarrassed of myself.

When i turned 40 Intokd my husband you can be young and fat or you can be old.....can't be both.

My endocrinologist also suggested it when he saw how diligent i was with my eating/working out and not losing anything

My parents actually asked if I had ever thought about it. I had many times, but never seriously, but I had gained a LOT of weight within a couple years and was shocked when I had a doctor's appointment and realized that I was up to 404 pounds. Everything hurt all the time and I couldn't walk a block without effort.

I had a co-worker who weighed almost 600 lbs. I saw her struggling to breathe, walk and live everyday. I didn't want to become her. She was afraid to have surgery and unfortunately passed away last year. It was a great decision for me even with the multitude of complications I experienced.
