Seizures after the DS

Anyone have an issue with Seizures after having the DS? I am 4.5 months post op from my RNY to DS revision and am having seizures that are accompanied with TERRIBLE debilatating migraines.  My quality of life is going down hill so fast because all I can do is sleep or be at the ER when this happens.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.  As well if you could spare a good thought or swing some critters

Yikes, how awful! Have you been evaluated by a neurologist? How about labs to check for nutrient issues?

What type of seizures are you having? What brings them on? Are you on any kind of treatment regimen for any of this?

I had horrific migraines for eons. They went away about 95% when I had a  hysterectomy, thank heavens. Never had a seizure, so have no input there.

Oh, wow, I'm so sorry you're going through this.

No seizures prior to the revision?  Have you tested your blood sugar in relation to the seisures?  Are you seeing an neurologist yet?

No advice, but good luck getting to the bottom of this.

How are your labs?  Blood sugars?  Fluid intake?  Seeing a neuro?  Had an MRI or anything?  Any correlation you have been able to make?

Prior to having my revision I suffered terrible reative hypoglycemia.  Since having my revision I have had no reactive hypoglycemia that I am aware of so I have not been checking my blood sugar.  My labs were not great when they were done at 3 months, my Protein and pre album were low, my D3, Iron and potassium were quite low as well

I found out I was having the siezures when I was in the ER to be honest with you.  We went in beause the migrain was so bad I could not even move.  DH had to carry me (thank you DS).  While I was there the nurse asked if I had seizures and my husband said no.  Apparently I was having a stare seizure.  I have the migraine, dizzyiness and seizures together.

I hae seen a Neurologist and have another appointment this week.  I dont feel like I am gettng anywhere and I feel really lost in this world of medical information and Drs that dont understand the DS yet want to blame the DS for what is going on

Michelle,

I would suggest seeing a neurologist and asking for a CAT scan and MRI of your brain, parasitic infections of the brain cause migranes and seizures, brain infections, abscess,  tumors, lesions etc, also have an EEG, any organ failures? (how is your blood work particularly kidney and liver) are you running a temp?   have these ruled out and if so treated, let us know, hope you feel better and you get an answer real soon.

I am so sorry you are having to deal with this. I have no advice besides seeing a specialist and trying to find out what is causing the issues but I am thinking about you and you are in my prayers!

My neurologist said that migraines and seizures can go hand in hand.  I am now taking Zonagran (sp?) which is a seizure drug, but it's also used to prevent migraines.  My migraines decreased in frequency right after surgery, but have since picked back up again, and I'm having them (on average) once a week.  I agree with the other posters though, get all of those tests run, and see where you're at.  I'm sorry you're dealing with this.  I, unfortunately, know the pain you're going through.

Glad you see a Neuro soon. Hope he does all the testing mentioned ! They will give you the answers you need.  This has to suck. I hope he can find a solution soon. Just remember no slow release meds if he prescribes something new. Or if he insists on slow release, it might have to be double the normal dose.. ie. instead of every 12 hrs, every 6 hrs.
