Unfortunately, I had to delete this post due to privacy concerns.

Got a lap band in 2008. Tried hard, but didn't lose much weight & developed swallowing problems. Fought my insurance company for almost a year & finally had a band to DS revision on 5/11/12. Have now lost 125 pounds. Yay!

Sounds like you have it covered. It took my PCP 2 years to read any of that stuff. She finally did when my dexa scan came back with osteoporosis. Good luck!

Shelli, you will only have maybe 10 minutes to speak to this doc, sooo...

1. Quickly explain how your guts will be different from an RYN's

2. State that because of the malabsorption component, you will really need to stay on top of your protein and supplements and also lab values so that you will need he/she to order these for you.

3. Explain that DSers keep some values a little higher (or lower) in the range because our values can change rapidly.

After that, then you can hand him your mother load of paperwork

Be prepared for him to try to talk you out of the DS. Stand you ground.
