I dont even know what to say. U have all been privy to my revision from rny to ds journey. First approved then denied them approved again.
Well it does me no good if doctors ( expert revision specialists on the east coast$ refuse to do the rebision on my rny configuration.
I hear u all screaming, Randy get the hell over to dr k, he will revise you. I know that guys but what happens in a month or two, while i am half way scross country from dr k, i get complications?
You guys see my issue. There NOBODY here in new york that will take care of me cuz the two experts in ny already tod me and my DH that i would have to ne crazy to take my non transected pouch and revise my plumbing into a ds.
I am now actually considering what one of the docs suggested 6 months ago and i said " Hell NO". The worst of both worlds, the ERNY OR DISTAL BYPASS.
Omg somenody tell me something good about the distal bypass.

I traveled half way across the country for a self pay revision with Dr. K. I worried about complications but was fortunate not to experience anything significant. There're no DS surgeons in my state to take over my follow-up. I have relied on my PCP and I have stayed in close contact with Dr. K by e-mail and phone.

Make your decision carefully.

Granted I live in CA so going to Dr. K was a no brainer for me but he is still 350 miles away. I guess I have faith that everything is going to work out and my PCP is very proactive so no worries here. You have to do what is best for you and I will tell you its the DS.

I'll tell you something good about the distal bypass:

You don't have to settle for it.

We could all make ourselves crazy with the "what-ifs" in life. No point in doing that - most of these horrible imagined outcomes fail to happen.

I wish you well.

I would not get the ERNY, I had to fly to get my revision, there is NO ONE (medical professionals) that is familiar with my DS, not my endocrinologist, not my endocrine surgeon, not my pcp, not my hematologist, not my GI.  I have 2 small kids at home, you bet i thought of complications, but I would NOT get a ERNY no way, you need to speak to patients with ERNY, there are some poor souls hereon OH  that have revised to DS after being very ill, malnutritioned. I had a consult with Dr K.  he is an amazing person and great surgeon, we all have to pick what is best for us,    I wish you well in your journey.....

I've heard amazing things about Dr. K.  But at the same time I totally understand where you're coming from.

I am a virgin DS preop so I very well could be talking out of my ass, but have you talked to Dr. Greenbaum in NJ?  Does he do revisions?  He's not that far of a drive from NY.

Since u asked, he is the doc that suggested it to me when he said he would not do a ds on me cuz of " non transected pouch". He felt to dangerous.

I think many of us are going to have to be the pioneers that will educate the PCPs and doctors as we go along as the DS isnt as well known. As long as you can get Dr K on the phone or computer there is no real need to have a local surgeon but it is important to get the best surgery from a competent doctor.  Don't settle for anything less than the DS. Cheer up - it's the right thing to do and you will survive it, after all you have this forum too and so far this has been more important and more valuable to me than any surgeon or PCP so far! DOn't let the omney seeking surgeons back there sell you a nag of goods you can't live with. BE smart- get the DS.
