GERD after the second part of the DS?

Hi,

I had the second part of the DS surgery 6 days ago. I never had problems with GERD after the sleeve gastrectomy, but since my most recent surgery, I feel a bit of reflux when I lie down.

Does anyone know why I would develop GERD only after the intestinal portion of the DS?

Thanks,

Julie

No idea really. Are you on antacids or have you adding something different to your diet?

I had the 2nd stage done the 25th. The doctor gave me prilosec and levonin to help. I can say...that for the first time in 4 years...i have not had any issue with gerd... good luck...and remember to stick to the old rule of no eating or drinking at least 2 hours before bedtime.

If you weren't instructed to take anything like Prilosec or Nexium post op, go get some and take it for about 6 months.  You may or may not need it after that period.  I didn't

Most surgeons will put you on something post op, and my surgeon explained that there is swelling that takes a while to completely resolve which contributes to the reflux.

Once things were healed, I've never had an episode of reflux since, but if you are, make sure your surgeon gives you something for it.
