Need Help - my Vitamin D is 15.8L - normal is 30-80

Hello All,

I have been feeling like crap for a while now.  I noticed about 6 months ago that I started getting this dark pregnancy mask on my face.  Did some research and found out it can be due to a vitamin deficiency.  My PMP had my bloodwork done and my Vitamin D level is WAY too low.  15.8 when normal is 30-80.

I am faithfully taking D3 50,000 IU a day, in the morning.   My PMP says he is going to put me on Actenol 35 once a week and pull my bloodwork in 3 months.   My PMP is not DS savvy so I want to make sure there isnt something else I should do.  If you have any advice please let me know.  My PMP told me if I dont get my numbers up I will not be able to walk in 15 years.  That really scared me.

I had to take 100,000 a day for a couple of months to get mine up...there is also vitamin D shots but not sure how lng they last. (I got my dry D from Vitalady)

Back before I even considered WLS, my vit D tanked...so low they could NOT even get it to measure. My last one was over 100. And normal is 35-100 now. And the closer you are to the top, the better.

Double your D for now...and once retested, adjust as needed.

I also did 100,000 iu per day for 2 months and had fantastic results (then backed down to 50Kiu).  I've also heard of people taking it before bedtime to give the body a better chance of absorptioin.

okay - - I will take the dry D3 50,000 twice a day - once in the morning and once at night.  Do you think I should take the Actenol 35 prescribed by my PMP?  He wants to do bloodwork again in 3 months.  I am not sure if taking Actenol is even necessary.

You might want to get a referral for an endocrinologist that specializes in bone. One that perhaps your surgeon recommends that is familiar with WLS malabsorbers. I had a problem with my D3 going even lower when I started taking Fosamax, another bisphosphonate, for osteoporosis. Most specialists want you D3 up over 50 before they start you on a bisphosphonate.

Years ago, mine was much lower than your low.  My internist (where home is) does 25,000 unit injections.  Then has a person do 50000units twice a week.  Then at a month he would do another injection.  After 3 months, I was up to normal levels.

That being said, I am about to deal with this after my DS.  I know that mine is down.

If you have a Dr willing to do injections, then that is the most effecient way for your body to build up.

Usually the one the doctor pescribes is the oil based gel (D2) which DS'ers can not use...the oil in the capsule makes it go straight thru us. We have to use the dry or injectable only. You can get dry D3 without a prescription tho and the highest amount is found at Vitalady or Amazon.

i take gel vit d (i think) and i always have a little grease in the stool when i use it. is that what you are talking about. But tonight when i got up to come to work, it was greasy (normal) and along with my normal stool it was loose dark gray color. I had 2 differant types of stool. which is not normal. the only thing differant that i did was donate blood and have s_x for the first time since surgey. I do not think either of them would effacet my stool. I was wondering what the gel vit d does?

If the gel vit d is a prescription, you are WASTING time and money. it's not absorbed, which is why oil slicks in the toilet.

Dry D3 is the one you need. You CAN find them in drugsores but you need a very high amount at first...once you have labs, you can adjust and only vitalady & amazon have the one high enough.
