I have ordered the Akins diet book from the library, with the idea that it will help me get the general picture of how we should be eating. Has anyone purchased the new one? I want to improve my eating, I started and fell off the wagon over the holidays and I have spent alot of time in the washroom and having stomach cramps, no ones fault but my own. The next thing I plan to do is get my blood work done and start a spread sheet. I have never looked at my results I have just always went with the dr telling me everything is fine. I was on the Vidaladies site and seen what the numbers should look like, so I will compare mine to hers. The next thing is to write down the blood tests that are important to get tested for, I seen it somewhere so I will look around and see if I can find it again. I wish there was a place I could go and print it out, if anyone knows of any please let me know.

As far as the Atkins book: Don't need a book to tell me what is a protein versus what is a fat versus what is a carb. Protein first, fat second, complex (veggies) third and if I have any room left, then I indulge sometimes. I did indulge too much during the holidays...but getting back on track now.

If you are new to counting carbs and protein, the Atkins books and website are a great place to start.

Yes, it'll tell you that things like berries are OK once you're further out (depends on how low you decide to go on carbs - personally I don't count them).  I'm not sure I'd have known that if I'd not read Atkins (it was 15 years ago, but I still remember the main bits).

The Atkins books are a good starting place.  But it's not hard to remember meat, cheese, eggs are good and should always be your go to foods.  Green veggies, other than peas are pretty good.  And forget the rest till you hit goal.
