Hello, I am a lightweight, top weight 246, had vsg, went down to 150, now 180. I am having ds this spring. After somewhat failing with the vsg, do you think I could fail with ds? I want to be around 120 pounds at 5'3". Will ds bring me down to a really light weight? Just once in my life, please!! Thanks.

It really depends on how short your common channel is made.  Who is doing your surgery?  It also depends on how well you stick to the DS "diet"... High Protein (Protein supplements), Moderate fat (some of have to look for ways to add fat to avoid constipation) and LOW carb.

I was a lightweight.  5'8  262  size 3x  now 145 size 4.

I gained weight last year from eating carbs.  Got back on track and lost the weight.

I am in Ontario, Canada, and will be going to Montreal to Dr. Gagner.  So can self pays ask for a longer channel?

If a DSer gains some weight, it is easy to lose it again, I mean easier than for most people?

Size 4 is beautiful. THANKS

I think you should discuss your concerns with Dr. Gagner. From all I've read over the years, total common channel length isn't as important as the relative lengths of the BP and alimentary limbs to each other and the common channel.

I guess anything is possible but it's pretty rare for a LW not to be able to lose with the DS. I have a 100cm common channel, if you're keeping track. Keep us posted on how you're coming along getting your DS.

Is 100 cm considered long, average or short?

I think most would say average.

Mine is long compared to most, mine is a 175 common channel. I weigh 138 (this week, last week it was 136, week before 138), I am 5'4" and wear anywhere from a size 2 to 6 pants (started at a 16W), and a S or M top, started at a 3X.

Getting to 120 would be doable but aim for just reaching a normal BMI first...that is 141, and after that, it's all "gravy". :)

What do most self payers pay for a ds? I am in Canada.

Many self-payers see Dr Ungson in Mex, Dr Marchesini in Brazil, or Dr Stewart in Texas.  www.dsfacts.com has an excellent list of DS surgeons.
