Exhaustion after long runs

I am just noticing a pattern.  After every long race I feel fine/tired, but good.  I stretch and head back to the car to drive home.  About an hour after finishing I am soooooo exhausted I am literally falling asleep in the middle of a sentence.  (Thank God I am usually with someone else so they can drive.)  When I finally get home I can sleep soundly for 10-12 hours or so.

Ideas?

I might should mention that I have also been diagnosed with focal seizures which I take meds for and I do have significant blood pressure fluctuations and take meds to keep my blood pressure in the normal range.

I have done several 1/2 marathons and am getting ready to train to run a full, but I can't sleep all day after a long run.

I may have had a few extra potholes along the way, but the journey has been good!

I often am pretty dead-brained right after a long run - - me and a buddy from my pace group were not the most conversational on our metro ride back up from DC today! And I did take a nap for a few hours.... but sleeping for 10 hrs? I might consult with a sleep specialist or your neurologist b/c that does sound a bit excessive. Hope it turns out to be nothing major!

Thanks! I know many people who nap, but I think this is pretty excessive. I think my refuel is pretty good, but this is still s learning experience for me! I know after a seizure I have that same utter exhaustion, but I find it quite coincidental that I would be having a seizure during every long run!
Thanks for ur input.

I have issues with proper refueling after a long run.  In one post you said you did okay with refueling, but specifics?

I dump on simple carbs, so I have trouble with GU's or other typical refuel products during runs.  I tend to "hit the wall" at about 2 hours in.  I'm trying to push my long runs longer each time, so that I can build more of an ability to store glycogen and not hit the wall so early.  But if you finish and refuel on carbs, do carbs make you sleepy?  They make me very sleepy.

I'm interested to hear what you figure out.
