Weekend workouts/training/etc

Group long run today (Sunday): most bailed at 11 miles but a couple of us stuck it out for the full 15 mi... since I'm an over-achiever, ended up as 15.42 miles at 11:44 pace. I guess I'll take that, as the hills were brutal on this route!

First ultra: Stone Mill 50 miler 11/15/14 13:44:38, First Full Marathon: Marine Corps 10/27/13 4:57:11Half Marathon PR 2:04:43 at Shamrock VA Beach Half-Marathon, 12/2/12 First Half-Marathon 2:32:47, 5K PR  Run Under the Lights 5K 27:23 on 11/23/13, 10K PR 52:53 Pike's Peek 10K 4/21/13(1st timed run) Accumen 8K 51:09 10/14/12.

Ran an easy 3 on Saturday, Sunday a different story...was supposed to do 18, but at 15 had to STOP just could go another inch...I attribute it to 3 things: 1. Been running on a treadmill for last 2 months but ran outside today, 2.  Was out at a Casino in CT last nite, no drinking but late not very tiring 3. Mentally was not into it...Very sad as I am having serious DOUBT if I can do the Full Marathon...

Sounds like you need a "come to Jesus" moment in your training, but if I'm wrong, please forgive this unsolicited advice! You've listed what didn't work, so avoiding those things (like late night out) can help get your training back on track. Training on a treadmill due to weather reasons is so different than road/trail running that it probably sets you up for feeling like you CAN'T do it but you CAN! I've known other runners who completed marathons under all sorts of conditions (trained on treadmills, didn't get more than 15 miles as their longest runs, trained alone, etc). If you've got time between now and your marathon, of at least 4 weeks, then you have time for another really long run (shoot for at least 18 miles but not more than 22?) and that can help build some of your confidence. I've heard it said that the training up to 20 miles is what you need to prove your body can physically do the marathon but that last 6.2 miles is built on mental toughness. Good luck!!! You CAN DO IT!!!!!!

Thnx for the response...I was hoping for that type of response, and I am glad u said what you said...lesson learned and will utilize your thoughts going forward in my training as I still plan on running Marathon in May!! thnx again...

YOU CAN DO IT!!! I'm sure it was all those factors combined and your mind too!  The mind can be severely limiting.  I am sure the fitness is there Bill!  15 MILES is NOTHING TO SNEEZE AT!! Consider you started running what? 1 minute and now you can run 15 miles, outside,  and with factors impeding you?  Wow!  Keep at it!  You have until May and that is PLENTY of time to train!  Give yourself a break and carry on!

i can only run 3 miles a day but i maintain it daily and also do several other exercises to achieve my target.

WHOO HOO! You are killing it! I ran in SF last week and as I went up and down the hills I was thinking of you and while I was LOVING running in the city...I was also realizing that hills are a freaking KILLER! 

Look at you...15+ miles!

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! I do 2.5 miles everyday but really can't run on weekend! I usually feel lazy at weekend! I guess I have to find a group and join them for weekend work out!
