I can't imagine that they could do it with fluid in your band ( but I am not a doctor) I have worked in GI for three years but have never seen them scope any one banded  and if it was me I would have the fluid  taken out and then refilled before you wake up. Good luck to you hope all turnes out well. Talk to your gastro doc they can give you more info

I hope your surgeon or a gastro enterologist that is familiar with the band is doing the EGD.  I went to a surgeon and the were like yeah if food can pass thru,  the EGD tube  should be okay passing thru.  Scared the crap out of me.

Needless to say I switched doctors.  My surgeon did a complete unfill, did the EGD and then did the refill in the gastroenterologist lab.

Shelli, why isn't your lap band surgeon doing the EGD?  I would definitely call your lap band surgeon and talk to them.  I wouldn't be comfortable with just anyone doing the EGD.

Oh okay!  : )
That sounds good!
I tend to be on the cautious side.

No worries!  I had one and asked my surgeon if I should get an unfill and he say no, not necessary.  It went fine and the proceedure is a breeze.  Relax.

Im getting my EGD done on 6/17. I had to go for an intial first time pt appt and I asked her at that time if the band would need to be unfilled. She said NO that there are often many things she finds in non banded ppl that the scope has to get around like blockages, polyps, etc. and that a filled band would be no problem:)
