Yeah, I was familiar with orthostatic hypotension after having it as a side effect to a medication I took years ago. That's why I wasn't immediately alarmed when I had a few dizzy spells, I was aware it was a possibility after surgery.

But yesterday felt like I had guzzled my Lortab and had a few shots of tequila, the effect was very pronounced and lasted most of the day (and this morning)... so a visit to the doctor was in order. My initial BP was only like 90/50 when I went in.

I'll have to figure out a way to get a little more salt in my diet; I've never been one to salt my food, so I'll have to find some foods that naturally have more sodium in the them.

LOL, I spent all these years not using butter, salt, or mayo, and now I'm told I need more salt and fat in my diet! :-p

I've actually been ordered to drink a lot less until further notice. I get way more than 100 oz. of fluids a day.

Google orthostatic hypotension. It's very common that first year after surgery.

Drink a lot more, and get more salt!

... and I have had some dizzy spells the last few weeks, mostly when standing.

That all ratcheted up a notch yesterday and I was dizzy for hours. So today I get an appointment with my doctor, and she declares that I have low blood pressure, and that I should stop taking medication.

And with that, I am now officially off all of my medications! Woot!!

I cannot believe how good it feels to be so much healthier and so happy!

I would say raw vegetables as much as possible. I also do little bites of apple since I'm over 10 years out. It helps to keep the blood sugar level up. Liquid fruit juice will spike your blood sugar, then it drops quickly...

Topic: Hungry - Full is there an in between?

It seems that either I am hungry or full, with hardly any time in between. I eat enough and am satiated for maybe an hour, and then hungry again. I try to have a healthy snack after two hours, something like 4 oz cottage cheese or some snap peas and hummus. Anyone else have this? And any suggestions on how to cope or what to try?

thanks,

Bob

I haven't really decided if I want to throw my hat into the ring. It is a former employer I left 16 years ago and may be jumping from the frying pan into the fire trying to go back!

Thanks! I have another short trip coming up next week. Hope to maintain the healthy eating.

Also I forgot to mention I get to start back at karate tomorrow. Kind of excited for that. Great form of exercise that doesn't feel like exercise at all to me.

Business travel is a double edged sword. If you develop good habits early, and work on healthy options, it can be a huge benefit (for me at least). Its very easy to make bad choices and blow both calories and macro's.

Great job with the travel so soon after surgery.
