Cyndee, My doc, who knows about my wls, but is an addictions specialist, says even non-wlsers, when they quit drugs or alcohol, spend months with depression and mood swings. Imagine us...how our brain chemicals are so totally out of whack! The seratonin/brain connection is fried on several levels and has been for a for a looong time. Operating on the stomach does not flip a switch in the brain. I told doc the mood swings were comprimising my sobriety. He put me on a generice for Prozac, which I asked for short term...6 mos, not wanting to get a transferrance going, and it has made a huge difference. No more high highs, and 2 minutes later a low, low. It was like living inside an alien. While I don't necessarily advocate drugs, for most it's unreasonable to suddenly, in the space of a 3 hr. operation, to eat a normal, healthy diet, not drink at all, and exercise regularly. I do whatever I have to do to insure success to the best of my ability. Vicki
