Seriously jonesin' for salt!

I an on day 9 of my post op liquid diet and am jonesin' bad for salt. So many things I can have, yogurt, vitamin water, are all sweet. I don't like the sweet. I have tried some of those box liquid soups and they are so bland. Even chicken broth (low sodium) is flat.

What can I have??

I had the same issue.  I found the bouillon packets/cubes helped with my craving.  I know they have more sodium but at that point, I just didnt care.  Patience with the process was also what I had to accept. I remember having this irrational urge for bacon during that time lol.  Best of luck!

Check with your doctor, but maybe a sip of pickle juice would help.

That is so funny that you suggest this. I was actually smelling pickle juice and couldn't figure out why it was such a big deal for me.  It must have been me craving salt.  I would never have put the two together.

I drank many cups of chicken broth spiked with hot sauce while I was on liquids. The spicy savory broth was a welcome change from cold sweet stuff.

I've found that I like Knorr's loose chicken bouillon in the jar. It has better seasoning than the bland cubes. I'm nearly four months post op and still include this in my lunch most days.

Is there some reason why we can't add salt to broths and the like?  Haven't had surgery yet, so just wondering.

Not suggesting you don't just want to have something salty because it would taste good. But, I remember our nut saying salt craving can be about dehydration - your body/brain knows that after salt you drink water, so it makes you crave salt to get the fluids. I don't know how true that is, but just trying to get some extra fluids couldn't hurt, anyway. :)
