I still take it and I am almost 15 months out. Have had reflux since 17yr. While I don't get the reflux I get the pain. I did have a scope done and no ulcer. If taking Prevacid works I don't mind taking it

My surgeon only prescribed it for 2 months, so I've been off it for almost a month now.  My GP did say to come to her if I felt I needed to go back on it, and she could easily write me a new prescription.  So far, so good!

You need to be taking it for a minimum of 3-6 months for ulcer prevention. You should get back on it immediately.

I had OHIP approved Duodenal Switch surgery with Dr. Dennis Hong at St. Joseph's Hamilton on March 7th, 2012. Want more information on the DS in Ontario? Send me a private message!

I asked my NP at my 1-month follow-up, and she said that some surgeons are actually not blanket prescribing it for more than a couple of months now, because there are risks to long-term use.   I will look into it again, though!  I don't want to get an ulcer.

I wasn't given any when I had my surgery almost two years ago! They introduced that at TWH after I had my surgery. As much as having pain was not fun, i'm glad I had a scope in the fall and they said my pouch is perfect. Of course I have no idea what the blind part of my stomach looks like!

Surgery March 23/2011. Completed three full marathons and two half marathons, two half Ironman distances. Completed my first Full Ironman distance (4 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km (full marathon) run) in Muskoka August 30/2015. Next Ironman Lake Placid July 23/2017!

Dr. Klein said that I didn't need to take it after 6 months.  I suppose that if I didn't feel well without it I could get a script from my gp.  I am ok without it and my Milk of magnesia tablets are also an antacid so they settle my stomach down if needed.

I had the sleeve, and I was told that I would be on a acid reflux drug for the rest of my life, I also need to take NSAIDS so it is used as a precaution to protect stomach
