I am 9 months out and when I had surgery the rule was 1 hour after eating.... The dietician said, in Ottawa now, the new rule is 30 minutes....

I am just curious what everyone else was told and what they follow...

Thanks!!

I was told 30 minutes.

I'm 2.3 years out and now sometimes when I eat a "bigger" meal I wait longer. I believe the longer you wait the more the food stays in your stomach and you feel satiated. After a while you will know when you are ready to drink. The full feeling passes.

I am almost 4 years post-op and I have ALWAYS stopped drinking a 1/2 hr before and wait at least 1/2 hour after...and I remain true to this rules..even now.

prior to surgery 323lbs....4 years post-op maintaining between 108- 114 lb loss.

I don`t wait.  I can`t chug fluids like I used to before surgery but I still need them during meals and sip.

I was told 30 minutes before and after by my centre, but I don't think the 30 mins before is necessary, because the liquid just goes right through your pouch. I always wait 30 minutes after, sometimes longer if I have a really full feeling.
