Mom's surgery yesterday didn't go exactly as planned
So my mom (Grammaof3) had her surgery yesterday, and isn't doing too well...the pain is killing her! I feel terrible because mine was so easy!
She knew before hand that the surgeon was going to remove a small section of her stomach due to an ulcer she had in the past, but when he started surgery he also found a hernia, and the ulcerated part of her stomach was a little larger. So...the only stomach she has left is her pouch, the rest was removed. Plus, they had to repair her hernia. (temporary repair...after she heals she will have to go in and get it done again)
Thank goodness she had Dr. Starr...he is amazing!!!!! BUT she is in so much pain right now, and her pain threshold is so high usually, I know she must be hurting! She can't keep anything down at all, not even water...she can't pee, so has a catheter in. She can barley move, so has only been up walking once, and I know the gas must be so uncomfortable! :( They aren't pushing the walking, I guess because of the other procedures. Thank goodness Dr. Starr was still able to complete it laproscopically! (spelling?)
Has anyone else had other surprise procedures done when they went in for surgery? I know everyone is different, but what was the healing time?
I'm sorry to hear that your Mom's feeling so rotten and her surgery needed to be more involved and longer than it might have been. The only thing I know is that the younger you are, the faster you heal up after surgeries. You must be feeling awful about this and all worried. I hope she gets a lot better tomorrow, and they are able to remove her catheter.
Hugs ((( ))) to you and your Mom.
Jenn. :)
*gentle hugs to you both*
Sorry to hear things did not go as planned... It sounds pretty rough but on the brighter side things have been dealt with that could be pretty big issues so hopefully they help her get her pain managed and get her up and moving soon.

I'm sorry your mom had such a rough go of it. I was also in a lot of pain, but I didn't have the additional problems your mom did. Please send my regards and my congratulations to her and welcome her to the bench from all of us losers!
